Notes:

This is one of my standalone Black Lands stories that doesn’t feature Felix Renn or Jerry Baldwin or any other recurring character. I enjoy writing these stories because they allow me to give different perspectives on the world, from different places around the world. Since the Black Lands is a global threat, I feel it’s important to the overall series to show how other people from different walks of life are dealing with the supernatural as part of their everyday lives.

In this case I figured if ghosts and monsters really existed, then there surely would be people who would fight for their right to live, even though they represent a deadly threat to human existence. I’m not sure if these people are the epitome of hopeful and optimistic, or if they’re just plain dumb. Fighting for the rights of vampires and werewolves seems counterproductive to the survival of humankind, but who’s to say these creatures and entities don’t have the right to fight for their existence?

It’s an interesting question to consider, and it’s one that Jill (the protagonist of this story) struggles with throughout the course of “Plutonian Shore.”
